Okay, so better late than never! Been wanting to post this for days but was on overload and had to go through the photos, get the names of the musicians, excuses, excuses. . .
So here goes:
Last weekend—Mighty Fine Guitars “The Big Room”, standing room only (actually people sitting on the floor when seats ran out)—The marvelous Kathy Kallick Band! Bluegrass—old timey bluegrass with a sometimes jazzy swing to it! So good that the audience got up off their seats and roared! Mostly original songs, all in the bluegrass tradition, all cool. They ended the set with a magical sing-along to the old favorite “I’ll fly away,” A real weepy sort of moment with the entire audience spellbound. Actually, we were spellbound from the moment the band took the stage—
Fabulous Jan Nussbaum and her handsome husband Rick joined me. We had dinner at Chows (organic food, Lafayette Circle) and then mosied over to the Big Room for the concert. Brian, (handsome as well), my guitar buddy at MFG, was a mighty fine host for the evening since Stevie was out of town for the weekend.
The Kathy Kallick Band: Kathy Kallick, lead singer, rhythm guitar; Annie Staninec, fiddle, vocals; Tom Bekeny, mandolin, fiddle, vocals; Greg Booth, dobro, banjo, vocals: Cary Black, acoustic bass, vocals
